| 1. The Joker |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: DC Comics November 04, 2008
this book was really great... it was disturbing at some parts but it was interesting... my only problem with the book was it was short =/ but that shouldnt stop you from picking this up. I really recommend it to mature readers only. Very adult themed... but it was good and the end was good... artwork is also great. thank you =)... more

Brian Azzarello, Filthy Rich (Vertigo Crime, 2009)
Brian Azzarello is one of the new kings of noir, and as such, any release of his should be hailed. And as a Brian Azzarello title, Filthy Rich, the first stand-alone piece of his I've read, is deserving of all the usual praise. Not so, unfortunately, the Victor Santos art with which the story was paired. I get what Santos was trying to... more

others are better writers than myself and will help you decide if this book is for you . i feel this book is a real value and has a pretty fair share of good (albeit) short winners in it's index . mature teens and adults will appreciate the various art and storytelling . i'm pretty sure you'll turn onto some new names . recommended . ... more

| | 4. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (Superman) |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: DC Comics January 01, 2006
I've never really liked superman as a character, though there are a lot of good Superman stories (All-Star, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, For All Seasons). In fact most of the stories in The Greatest Superman Stories Ever Told (vol. 1) are some of the best stuff that came out of DC, pre-Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil.
But despite the good stories, Superman as a character, has... more

| | 5. El Diablo |
| By: Brian Azzarello, Danijel Zezelj Publisher: Vertigo January 30, 2008
El Diablo was an entertaining ride trough a mysterious spaghetti western style tail. If you like Deadwood (which reminded me of it), High Plains drifter, Mystery and just plain old westerns and shoot `em up films, you will like El Diablo! Sheriff Moses Stone has a lot of cool lines and so does the book itself. Stone is your antihero with a secret past that he wishes to obliterate... more

Brian Azzarello, Loveless: A Kin of Homecoming (Vertigo, 2006)
Despite my overwhelming affection for Preacher, I still feel kind of hinky towards the idea of western comics. I've never been a huge fan of the genre in general, though there have always been specific pieces of it that work for me, rather as there are in any genre. I should have known that, like anything else he turns his... more

| | 7. 100 Bullets Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: Vertigo February 01, 2000
After a serial publication history spanning nearly 10 years, the final issue of 100 Bullets was published by Vertigo in April, followed in October by the final trade paperback collection, bringing an incredible, extended noir tale by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Eduardo Risso to an absolutely explosive conclusion. And while the ending wraps things up in grand fashion--and fans wouldn't have it... more

| | 8. Batman/Deathblow: After the Fire |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: DC Comics May 01, 2003
Picking up this book was a foregone conclusion once I saw the names Azzarello/Bermejo attached to it. I am a big fan of their work and am anxiously awaiting their forthcoming Joker story. This one is a decent, although quite decompressed read. Many panels contain very few, if any, words. This trend in modern comics of padding stories with pages and pages of scriptless art in order to sell more issues... more

| | 9. Deathblow Vol. 1 |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: WildStorm August 19, 2008
Don't get snobbish, but Brian Azzarello's 9 issue run on Deathblow is some of the finest kinetic action in any medium period. From the bombastic military, to the dogpack companions, every line is perfect for that character. The cyborg raptor, possibly the stupidest concept in the world, is elevated to titanic villain heights. His slugfest with an opponent where he has to correct him about just what... more

| | 10. Superman: For Tomorrow, Vol. 1 |
| By: Brian Azzarello Publisher: DC Comics May 01, 2006
I couldn't imagine how I wouldn't love this trade. Sadly, then I read it. The story was hard to focus on with it jumping around and the crisis not making sense. Lee's art was of course fantastic, he is Jim Lee. Unfortunately, the plot was hit and miss, but mostly miss. Overall, a huge letdown... more
